Vance Anderson III, 55, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his home. Vance was born on July 25th, 1958 in Durham, NC to Vance Anderson, Jr. and Betty Asbill Anderson. Vance was Vice-President of A.V. Anderson, Incorporated and Carolina Realty and Insurance where he worked for 29 years after studying Engineering and Economics at North Carolina State University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Vance’s was a life lived for the benefit of others. A kind and generous brother and uncle, devoted son, and loyal friend, Vance generously shared his natural enthusiasm and genius for fixing or building all sorts of things mechanical or electronic with everyone around him. Nothing was too much trouble or too great a challenge. He had a lifelong passion for music ranging from playing trumpet and French horn in the band at Broughton High School to singing in the church choir at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. Vance also ran his own DJ business for several years, often using equipment that he built himself. Vance enjoyed the outdoors and was an active member of the Wake County Wildlife Club.
Vance is survived by his mother Betty Anderson, sister Cissy Anderson Beckert and husband Bruce Beckert of Pinehurst, brother David Asbill Anderson, nephew Michael Culler and fiancée Brooke Barta of Atlanta, GA, niece Caroline Malaspina and husband Peter Malaspina of Boston, MA, and cousins John Anderson, Jr. and wife Cheryl and Harriet Anderson Gayle and husband Jim of High Point. He leaves behind a wide circle of friends to whom he was deeply devoted. He was preceded in death by his father, Vance Anderson, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, April 29 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive guests in the Jane Bell Gathering Space following the service. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at 11am.
