He is preceded, in death, by his parents, William and Emma Woods; four sisters, Betty, Billie, Nita, and Senie; his two sons, David Allen and Glenn Allen; and one grandson, Jason.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne, as well as four children, Jacque, Bob, Mike, and Dee; his three sisters, Thelma, Peggy, and Clara; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Allen was born on September 13, 1938 in Charlotte, NC. His interests in high school were the tuba and Civil Air Patrol. He joined the United States Army in 1956, and was discharged in 1959. After his first tour in the military, he worked as a shoe salesman, and a company making electrical transformers.
Allen reenlisted in the military in the fall of 1961. He was in the United States Army for a total of 23 years, and served valiantly in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Sergeant First Class.
He also served 20+ years as a volunteer firefighter with the Florence Fire Department.
Allen led a full and fulfilling life, and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
