Sue Gee Yee, 74, of Newton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2021. Sue was born in Tegal, Indonesia on August 20, 1946 to the late Wu Tseyou and Hsu Zhenniang. She was raised in Guangzhou, China where she made many lifelong friends and where many relatives still reside.
To many, the mention of Sue’s name will conjure up her smile followed by some memories of music - whether it was enjoying music or having a music lesson with her. Sue made music her life at an early age, starting with music school in Indonesia, studying and graduating from music college in Guangzhou, and later teaching music at #38 Middle School. After moving across the globe to Boston, MA, she would continue to nurture her love for music by teaching piano to a small group of students. In fact, even up until mid July of this year, you can find her still sharing music with her former classmates and students, tutoring her grandson, Connor, on his cello lessons, and listening to her other grandson Dylan play music on his guitar. There was no doubt that both music and teaching were intricately woven into Sue’s DNA.
However, if you were to ask Sue what her most cherished memories were, she would most likely bring up moments involving family, especially with her two grandchildren, Dylan and Connor. She loved taking the time to teach them the simple joys in life - whether it was turning that cardboard box into an awesome ride that rivals Disney, building an epic train track for Thomas the Tank engine all over the living room floor, or going for walks with them to just enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer that day - a colorful leaf, a strange bug, a cloud, or to simply be the provider of pockets to help carry sticks and rocks for them.
No matter who you are though, for all who have known Sue, she will be remembered for her smile, kindness, and graciousness. But here’s a little something you might not know, the sum of who Sue was, was actually driven by her fierce desire to enjoy life to the fullest and that includes accepting her fate with grace, joy and a healthy dose of humor. So please take a moment and think of a shared good memory with her, hopefully, one that was funny and sure to bring a smile or laugh.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Chao Bak Yee, her daughter Christina and son-in-law, Bryant Yee. She was the cherished grandmother, “Ema”, to Dylan and Connor Yee. Sue is also survived by her older brother, Wu Qiufeng and her sister-in-law, Li Jiuling from BeiJing and her younger brother, Ng NaiFong and her sister-in-law, Gee SiauwKhoen from HongKong. She was the beloved Auntie to many nephews and nieces around the globe.
Viewing will be at Deware Funeral Home, 556 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA on Friday, August 27th between 9am and 12noon. Funeral Service will follow and be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave, Boston, MA. Please note that masks will be required inside the funeral home.
