Judith E. Bettencourt, 79, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2022 at her apartment in Wollaston. She was born in Quincy and lived there her entire life. Beloved daughter of the late Roger and Lucille (Studley) Bettencourt and the much-loved sister of George S. Bettencourt and his wife Lynn of Murrysville, PA, and the proud aunt of Derek A. Bettencourt and his wife Su of Foster City, CA.
Following her graduation from North Quincy High School in 1961, Judith (Judi) worked several years at the John Hancock Insurance company and then was employed for over 35 years at the Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston; first as a switchboard operator and then later in various clerical positions within the subscription department.
She was a lifelong active member of the Quincy First Church of Christ Scientist, and served in many positions. In particular she enjoyed floral decorating activities. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Quincy Christian Science reading room. Judi also found great satisfaction working as a health care aid.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 56 years, joining the former Wollaston Chapter, (which is now the Braintree Chapter) in January, 1966. Judi was active in the Starlets group and enjoyed helping out on the Annual Antique Show and Sale Fundraiser; working in the kitchen preparing food and serving the attendees. She was also a member of the South Shore Viking Association where she helped with the annual ‘Jul’ bazaar.
There will be a memorial service at the Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock St. Quincy, MA 02170 on Saturday March 26 at 1 PM. This service will be followed by a visitation/reception from 2 -4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientists, 1460 Hancock St. Quincy, MA 02169 or to a charity of individual choice.
