Danny was born on September 19, 1958, in Toisan, China. He married his childhood sweetheart, Yu Lan, on February 28, 1981. Together they enjoyed spending time with their family, traveling and attending social events with their friends.
When he immigrated to the United States in 1979, his grandparents told him to get an education but instead he chose to work at a restaurant to provide for them. That began a successful 40-plus year career in the restaurant industry, during which he owned and operated a number of restaurants. Over that time, he formed countless relationships, which led to his commitment to the Goon Family Association, the Chung Wah Association, and the Boston Chinese Masonic Lodge. This was his way to be involved in the community and give back. He never forgot those that helped him along the way and was eager to do the same for others.
Danny’s dedication to his restaurants was only surpassed by his love for his family and friends. He welcomed everyone with a smile and had the ability to connect with people from all walks of life, old and young. Behind that smile was a jokester. You learned early on that you needed to check your shirt or remember to not look down when you walk by him, otherwise you are susceptible to his “what’s on your shirt?” trick and end up with his finger in your face.
Danny loved cooking for the Tuesday family dinners and the annual Yuensgiving. He welcomed anyone that wanted to join. He would always ask his kids and grandkids which of the family favorites they wanted him to make for celebrations. He enjoyed sitting down to a nice meal, sharing laughs with his family and friends, and topping it off with a glass or two of red wine or cognac.
Danny was a selfless man, putting the needs of others ahead of his own. He worked hard but as he would tell his wife, “the happiness our children and grandchildren bring to my heart makes it all worthwhile.” His face would light up at the sight of his grandchildren.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Jian Hing Yuen and Fong Yin Leong. He is survived by his loving wife Yu Lan; siblings Denise, Siu Kuen, Siu Ha, and Jimmy; son Tommy and his wife Cherrie, daughter Nancy and her husband Jimmy, and son Jerry and his fiance Eva; grandchildren Aiden, Emma, Alise, Haley, and Nora; and countless extended family and found family members. He cared about and loved all of his nieces, nephews and younger generations. Many looked to him as a father figure, held him in high regard and loved him dearly.
