Bo King (Lee) Yee of Brookline, died peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at South Cove Manor in Quincy. She was 98 years old. She was born in Toishan City, Guangdong Province, China and came to the United States in 1947 after her marriage to the late Paul Gwun Kee Yee. Bo King leaves four children, Paul M. Yee, Jr. and wife Helen Yee, Timothy Y. Yee and wife Faye (Chin) Yee together with two children Jonathan Yee and Jennifer Yee, Donald G. Yee, and Linda G. Yee.
Bo King was the eldest daughter of seven children of the late Fook Foo Lee and Kam Yuk Lim. She is survived by her brother, Shown Kwong Lee and wife Fung Ming Lee and three children Ka Ling ("Karen") Lee and husband Tony Chong together with daughter Katie Chong, Kit Wing ("Kevin") Lee and wife Emily Wang together with children Emma Lee and Penn Lee, and Chung Wing ("Kenny") Lee; her sister Bo Kuen Hom together with son Sam Hom; her sister Bo Har Gee together with daughter Shirley Chan Hood and her husband Kevin Hood and child Rowan Hood; sister Gen Yee ("Jenny") Ng together with her children Leilani Ng and Arnold Ng and wife Patricia Chen; sister Beg Yee ("Betty") Wong and husband Wilfred Wong together with children Calvin Wong and Eric Wong. Her elder brother was the late Po Kwong Lee and wife Wai Non Chin survived by their two sons Gee Wing Lee and wife Dana Q. Yong together with their children Ryan Lee and Wyatt Lee, and Yon Wing Lee and his wife Claudia Lee together with their children Honon Lee and Alona Lee.
She was the sister-in-law of Shoon Wah ("David") Lee and his late wife Shiling Zhu together with their children Mei Fonn Lee, Yew Tin Lee, Mei Lee and her husband Nikolos Del Rio; and John (“Wee”) Lee together with his children Kenneth Lee and his wife Lilly Chun and Tracy Lee and the late Shoon Him ("Himmy") Lee..
Bo King lived a long and fruitful life as the matriarch of her family. As the first member of her family to emigrate to the United States, she raised four children with her husband in Boston. She worked as a seamstress in the clothing factories in Chinatown while her husband worked in Chinese restaurants as a waiter. Eventually, she was able to petition and reunite with her remaining family left in China and Hong Kong in Boston.
As important, Bo King was a devout Christian who was one of the eighteen founders of the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church in 1961.
Visitation for Bo King will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02170. Funeral service will be officiated by Senior Pastor Daniel Chan of the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain.
