Dear Mars Family, 

I wtite this tearfully after giving some time for the reality to settle in and the family to mourn, I decided to share in memorial of the one and only, Erzulie (a.k.a Vica) Mars.  I stuggle to believe that my sista, from another Mrs. And Mr., is no longer with us.  As a friend, colleague and fellow York College Alumni, we shared many moments in frustration, jest and hope about the impact we can have on the students and the institution.  We shared a similar sense of humor, love for music and growth and she always had the right words or sentiment to lift your spirits when you needed it the most.  I appreciate having you in my life friend and will always remember you as the beautiul light that you were.  You were a groomsmaid at my wedding and a ride or ride partner.  You will be missed..  with love... Your boy Hass and "Your Josè"

Vica, as we called her, was one of the best students when she took my teacher education course. For years after her graduation from Yrk, she was an exemplary person, in every respect. We would hug  (I'm a hugger) every time we met. She was meticulous in everything she did, with a loving, caring heart. The Teacher Education Department Chair, Dr. Leslie Keiler, asked me to extend the department's condolences. God bless you all, and may He wrap His arms around you. We will miss her deeply.

My deepest sympathy to Vica Mars family and friends.  As her First Sergeant in the military at our Fort Totten base in Queens New York, I had the opportunity experiencing her work ethics, sense of humor, respectfulness and honesty first hand.  We stayed in touch over the years and after texting and calling her numerous times without any response recently, I suspected something was wrong.  Decided to Google her name and obituary, only to discover that she had passed and was laid to rest the day prior to finding out. Right now I'm at a loss for words and deeply saddened.  May her soul rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss.  I knew her as a Soldier and friend.  She was always a joy to be around.  Heaven had a special one.

my condolences to you.  I have known Vica from when I started working at York College in 2016.  What a wonderful, inspiring person!  Vica's energy, her straightforwardness, her courage and ability to talk truth to power in a positive way, her unwavering commitment to supporting York students! 
On so many occasions we interacted I have expressed to Vica my appreciation for what she did or said. Now that she is no longer here, I wish I could say, and she could hear, my thank you for the person she has been. May you find solace in hearing it.

I met Vica  in graduate school at Baruch College. Whether in class or walking to the subway after class, Vica always maintained her authentic, bold, and fearless disposition. She was unafraid to share her perspectives, always ready for a challenge or debate, and daring enough to stand by her beliefs and express her feelings with or without support.
After grad school, we occasionally kept in touch.  Just before the summer, I visited York. After years of not physically seeing each other,  Vica and I hugged, chatted, and laughed. As usual, work came up, and Vica expressed her frustration, "Girl, let me tell you, people don't want change, they're stuck in the old ways." You could tell that, as always, she wished she could do more to bring about that change. Vica will surely be missed.

My name is Janet Williams , I first met miss Mars in 2018 as she was on a search committee for a custodial supervisor where I was an applicant, after the grilling questions and my demonstration of an actual project, she was very impressed,I was hired. I then began to see her on a regular which we form a mutual friendship. I find miss Mars to be a person who anyone can relate to, she's very caring, compassionate, and a very good listener.if I have any questions or even a problem I could always go to her. I was saddened by the news of her passing she will be grately missed. I pray for healing and God's comfort for her family and friends in their moment of grief, may she sleep in peace, gone but not forgotten 🙏.

It was a joy to have known a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul.  When I first met Vica she was so delightful.  Ever encounter with my sister was pleasant and professional.  She always greeted everyone with a warm smile.   I will truly miss Vica.

My heart is heavy today knowing that I'll never get to be graced with her presence again, but I am thankful that she is at peace and resting.

Dear Mars Family,

I had the pleasure of being mentored by Vica during my short time at York. Losing her has deeply pressed upon me. I will always remember that she called out my professional potential to be and earn more. She was also very supportive during the time that I loss my mother. She made me laugh through some bad days.

My heart goes out to you at the loss of Vica. I worked closely with Vica over the last two years to set up a new program at York.  I will always be indebted to her good cheer and many kindnesses. Vica was excellent at all her jobs. She was efficient and never let a detail that needed attention slip by. I appreciated her as a colleague so much. My youngest sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer during this time. No matter what we were doing, Vica always remembered to ask about her: "How is your sister?" And she would always tell me she was praying for her. Like so many others, I will miss her beauty and grace. And like so many others, she touched my life and I take that with me.

Vica was very cheerful and always light us with a smile. I will pray for the repose of her soul and prayers to all her family, friends, and extended family at York College.

Vica’s kind heart and spirit have left a lasting impression on all of us. In the short time I was blessed to know her, she deeply touched my heart with her encouragement and support when I needed it most, and she didn’t even know she did that. She is now resting with the Lord, a true angel indeed.
