Robert David Hagemann was a happy, kind, thoughtful, loving man. He was born March 27th 1942 to John and Helen Hagemann. He has an older sister named Joan. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was a blonde haired, blue eyed All American Boy. He moved to Queens Village New York in 1950. He took pride that he was in the first graduating class at Martin Van Buren High School. He joined the United States Army because of the love and devotion he had for his country. He met his wife, his Sweetie of 50 years Patricia in the year of 1964 on a blind date they later married in 1965. He left the military in 1970. He became a New York City Department of Sanitation Worker and retired after 25 years. Robert and Patricia had their first child Carrie in 1975. Their son Bobby was born in 1978. They have resided in Bellerose New York for 37 years. Bob had many hobbies he collected stamps, then gems, rocks, fossils, and minerals. He collected NASCAR replica cars and Homies. The walls of his room were like a showroom for this man that was really a kid at heart. He also collected Avon bottles and funny coffee mugs that usually contained female anatomy. He loved all animals especially cats and dogs. He rescued kittens on two occasions nursing them and caring for them until he could find them homes. In 2002 Mike joined the family becoming not just Bob's son in law, he loved Mike as if he were his own child, he called him "My Mikey".
Last April Bob learned that he was finally going to become a Grandpa. He was naming the baby before Mike and Carrie could think of names. When learning he was going to have a grandson he started picking NASCAR and John Deere cars for the baby's room. December 29th Robert became the proudest Grandfather to Jackson. He would tease Carrie and Mike and call his Grandson Jason. When he faced having open heart surgery he said he would do it for Jackson. He wanted to help Jackson learn to walk and go for strolls around the block. He also couldn't wait to eat Cheerios with his little man. He loved his family, he was a quiet man with a heart of gold. He used to intimidate Carrie and Bobby's friends, but if he said "Hi Ya" to you, you knew he liked you. Otherwise he would give you a simple head nod. He was a big guy, with a big heart, he had a great smile, he had beautiful eyes like the bluest ocean, he was a funny man that loved to joke around and tease. His world was his "Sweetie" even being hospitalized he wanted to get home to take care of his beautiful bride. As Dad became so sick so suddenly, he would want to thank everyone who prayed for him and his family. He would be worried about us being ok and I wouldn't want him to worry. I know we have to be strong for Mom but my heart is broken. I never could have imagined a world without you in it. We are trying to get through your loss together. I pray each day will make it easier, but I see no relief in sight. Dad you were my hero, I love you, I miss you, and I hope I have made you proud of your little girl. Robert is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughter Carrie, his son Bobby, his son in law Mike, his Grandson Jackson, his sister Joan, brother in law Gerry, nieces Jude Ann, Karen, and Kim. His sister in law Carol, Jim, and his nephews Frankie, Patrick, and the late Christopher. We will always love and miss you Dad.
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
