Ollie Parr a retired registered nurse for nearly half a century died February 23, 2022, after fighting a long bout with cancer. She was born on December 19, 1930, in Mecklenburg County Virginia. She was the youngest daughter of 13 brothers and sisters and daughter of Nathan and Virgie Moore.
Ollie is survived by her three children Philip (Elonzo), Cathy (Cat), and Gregory Parr. She was a loving mother-in-law to Joselyn Parr and Laura Parr, a loving grandmother to Natasha Parr, Paul Parr, Philip Parr, Aaron Parr, Oiniza Mitchel, and Bumi Lawrence Jones. And also Great Grandmother to Elonzo Parr, Amora Mitchel, and Adrienne Johnson.
Ollie was the widow of Philip E. Parr Sr. and they raised their three children in Brooklyn, New York. Ollie was a proud and dedicated nurse who had the privilege of serving in a variety of nursing positions such as hospital supervisor, visiting nurse, school nurse and finally finishing her career at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn where she worked in utilization review.
Ollie was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and for 60 years dedicated her life to serving Jehovah. She was an avid bible reader and had the good fortune to conduct several successful bible studies. She was and is fondly known by many in congregations in the New York City area and Chesapeake Virginia where she and her husband retired.
Ollie was a loving mother known by her children for her tenacious work ethic, always moving, never sitting, caring for her children always doing what was necessary to ensure they had what they needed. She was aunt to over 50 nieces and nephews, countless grand nieces and nephews, and the last surviving member of her family’s generation. She was our rock, our matriarch, and will be deeply missed by many.
