Linda Greaves Bey was born July 18, 1944, to Joseph Greaves and Ophelia Thrower and departed this life Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 79, at Long Island Jewish Hospital of New Hyde Park, New York, after withstanding a battle with multiple illnesses.
Linda was a strong-minded woman with a big personality. She was smart and witty, articulate, and funny. Whatever version you got of her; she left a lasting impression. Linda was an educator for special needs children with the NYC Board of Education. She firmly believed in the human experience and that special needs children were God's gift to humanity. She dedicated her life to the special needs community and making a difference in their lives by helping maintain their dignity and integrity with hopes of making their future dreams a reality. Linda became a special needs community Ambassador and recorded a special needs anthem, "Who Am I?" to bring awareness and to give the special needs community a voice. Linda was also an activist and a pillar of justice in the legal community.
In her younger years, Linda was an entertainer. She was the lead singer of the Sweethearts and performed with the legendary Shirley Sullivan the wife of Cuba Gooding Sr. She also performed with the Crystals, the Chantells, sang background for Teddy Pendergrass, the O’Jays, sang along side of Jackie Wilson, her childhood friend, Gary U.S. Bonds, and many more.
Our beloved mother had four children and is survived by three: Octavia St. Laurent who preceded her death, Jonathan Austin Pemberton Bey, Joye Greaves Bey Wilfred, and Jalal Hassan Omar Khweiss. Linda is also survived by her two grandchildren, Jennae Wallace Pemberton and Anthony Khweiss and her great grandchildren, Israel Parker, Rita Marie Wallace, Ricky Ricardo Fintaine, and a host of relatives.
Linda was the heart and soul of our family, and she will be dearly missed!
A visitation for Linda will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. Following the visitation will be an interment from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery, 127-15 Kew Gardens Road, Kew Gardens, NY 11415.
