John V. Sheridan, Sr. passed away on May 22, 2024 at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his loving parents Margaret and Thomas Sheridan, his sister, Kay Boutilier, and his brothers, Thomas Sheridan (Margaret) Joseph Sheridan (Patricia) and Vincent Sheridan (Mary Jane).
John leaves behind his loving wife Ann, his loving children, daughters Judy Sheridan (Kevin) Kathleen Sheridan-Gustafson (Scott) Joyce Sheridan (Craig) and sons John Sheridan Jr. and Brian Sheridan (Kelly). He was a loving grandfather to Frank Hudson, Melissa Krioneris, (George), Hayley Sheridan, Gabriel Sheridan, Keira Sheridan, Shain Sheridan, Braden Sheridan, Branden Alioto and great grandfather to Kris Krioneris, Alex Krioneris, Lucas Krioneris, Sophia Krioneris and Landen Alioto. John also leaves behind his sisters and brothers in law, many nieces and nephews, extended family, as well as family in Ireland.
John worked for the NYC Transit for over 20 years as a bus driver. After retiring from the MTA, he worked for the US Postal Service for 12 years.
John was a proud Irish and American citizen. He celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by hosting a party every year. He was the President of the NYCTA Emerald Society and a volunteer firefighter on Long Island. He had many interests including playing cards, taking photos, and sports. He was an avid Yankees and Jets fan. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a good bowler. Going to casinos and playing scratch-off games were some of his favorite pastimes, especially when he won!
John was a family man and a friend to everyone. On a nice day, you would often see him outside socializing with neighbors and friends while listening to Irish or 50’s music.
The Sheridan family thanks everyone for their kindnesses and prayers during this very difficult time.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at American Martyrs' Roman Catholic Church, 79-43 Bell Blvd, New York, NY 11364. A burial will occur Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, 5 Bradhurst Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
