James, known as Jimmy to his friends and "Pa" to his loving family, died May 4th, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Brooklyn , New York on June 17th, 1942 to Joseph and Mary (Martin), he was the youngest of six children and is survived by his brother John Buster Smith.
Our 'Pa" grew up in Brooklyn and was an avid New York Sports fan. His first love was the Brooklyn Dodgers, but his greatest love was Patricia Ann Carrick, who everyone called Patsy. They married and had five children , John Thomas, James Joseph, Joseph Edward, Dawn Marie, and Michael Thomas, who survive him.
He went to work for the New York Telephone Company, later Verizon, in the early Seventies and was a strong Union Man. To the many friends he made at work he was known as "Jimmy Stories", because he always had a funny tale to tell.
Proud of his Irish ancestry, Pa loved a round of golf and a pint or two with family and friends, but his greatest passion was for his cherished Grandchildren, Nicole, Brian,Thomas, Kevin, Ryann, James, Ashley, Joseph,Patricia, Toniann, James, Michael, James and Christopher, and his recent Great-Grandchildren Riley, Nora and Isabella. Pa was there for every graduation,wedding, Christening, special occasion or ball game.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his beloved wife Patsy in 1998 after 38 years of marriage, as well as his parents and siblings Joseph, Charles(Mick), Helen,and Dorothy, and his daughter-in-law Moira Ann(Reddy), NYPD.
In addition to his brother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he is survived by his beloved daughter-in-laws Katherine , Connie, and Christine. He leaves behind many friends, cherished memories and broken hearts.
Funeral Visitation will be on Friday 5/8/2015 from 2-9 PM
