A first generation American, she was born on Christmas Eve 1925, in Washington Heights, NYC to Numa Acosta and Matilda Fridstrom.
Alice’s passion for life never left her. She received a BA in English from Hunter College and a Master’s in Library Science from Columbia University. She was a “working mom” her entire life and retired as the beloved librarian of Brandeis High School.
Alice married Alfred Ward after only two dates, and they were devoted to each other until his death in 2001. They had five children. And 13 glorious retirement years together, in which they travelled the world, and became actors performing in Community Theater productions all over Queens. Alice’s impersonation of Mae West was unforgettable.
She is survived by her five children: Sons: Paul & wife Maria, David & wife Mary, Christopher, Carter & wife Carol, and daughter Melanie. Grandchildren: June, Erin, Kristin, Danielle, Carrie & Jace. And a great-grandchild, Lumen, which means light.
And the light in this world is just a littler dimmer now that the incredible Alice Ward has moved on to Heaven.
