Sibyl Elizabeth Wilfong died peacefully on September 25, 2017, after a hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing, with them whispering in her ear that she is loved right up to the Moon… and Back!
Sibyl was born, March 12, 1940, in Sedro Woolley, Washington, to Raymond Walter Nichols and Ella Ann Nichols. On August 13, 1960, she married the love of her life, George P. Wilfong, and began a 57-year love affair. Sibyl was attending the University of Washington, Nursing School, when George knocked on the door of her sorority house, Alpha Delta Pi, and life as she knew it was changed forever. Together they raised three children, Peggy, Tom and Christi, who are grateful beyond words to have grown up in the loving arms of this incredible woman.
The Wilfong family built their life in Puyallup, Washington, where George taught and coached at West Junior High and ultimately at Puyallup High School. Sibyl was always front and center at all of his football games, wrestling matches and track meets, cheering on her Puyallup Vikings! She loved being the wife of a coach and could always be heard cheering on George’s teams, as well as her own children and grand kids. Whether you were winning or losing she was always on your side and your biggest fan. Sibyl was fiercely loyal to her hometown teams, and when she wasn’t at a PHS game, you could find her watching the Seattle Mariners or Seahawks. And of course, let’s not forget her Huskies, remember - Bow Down to Washington!
Sibyl was passionate about many things, but the word that embodies her best is Family. She put her family before anything else in her life and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Some of our best memories are the family vacations to Ocean Shores and Sun River, where we were all together playing in the sun, swimming in the pool, and riding our bikes to the village where Grandma Sibyl would meet us for treats of some sort. We built memories as a family that will last us for a lifetime.
Sibyl is survived by her husband, George Wilfong; daughters Peggy Haskey and Christi Wilfong; son Tom Wilfong, and their loving families, Peggy’s husband Steve Haskey and granddaughters Elizabeth and Chelsey Haskey; Christi’s husband Mark Swatzell; Tom’s wife Cindy Wilfong and grandsons Brett and Brock Wilfong; Sibyl’s brother Pete Nichols and his wife Gail; George’s brother John Wilfong; two nieces and two nephews; numerous cousins who she loved dearly; and of course her loving dog Duncan.

On the night you were born,
The Moon smiled with such wonder
That the stars peeked in to see you
And the night wind whispered,
“Life will never be the same.”
Because there had never been anyone like you…
Ever in the world. - On the Night You Were Born, by Nancy Tillman
