Born a farm girl in Ellensburg on April 18, 1932, Mary Ellen (Moreau) Hackney passed away on November 12, 2013 in Tacoma. She had many fond memories of baling hay and riding horses with her three sisters and two brothers. Following high school, she moved to Seattle to study cosmetology and loved to chatter with all the ladies during the day. By night, she was the local shuffle board champion playing for free beer. Her marriage to Richard brought her a ready-made family of three daughters and grandchildren to follow. Mary Ellen and Richard loved the outdoor activities of the Northwest and traveled throughout the U.S. As a widow, she didn’t let any grass grow under her feet with expanded travels throughout the world. She loved her carefree years in Federal Way playing cards, bingo and potlucks with neighbors and Red Hatters. She will be missed and is loved very much by the Moreau and Hackney families and her many friends.
