John H. Schneider, 89, resident of Bonney Lake, passed away on October 1, 2011 in Seattle (VA Hospital). Prior to his death, John lived at Washington Veterans Old Soldier’s Home in Orting. Born on July 16, 1922 to John H. Schneider, Sr. and Sarah Kettering in Seattle, John was raised in Suquamish, and attended Seattle Prep, North Kitsap High School, and the University of Washington. After serving his country for five years during WWII in the U.S. Army, 246th Combat Engineers Battalion, he was awarded the Bronze Star. John participated in the D-Day campaign and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of a concentration camp. On January 12, 1946, John married his sweetheart, Doris Flynn in Seattle; they were married for 65 years. John worked as a carpenter by trade [Local #30 (131)], he also enjoyed fishing, rock hounding (Seattle Lapidary and Mineral Club), football, baseball, visiting with friends and family, and he was a member of Enumclaw VFW 1949.
Survivors are his wife, Doris Schneider of Bonney Lake; brother, Robert (Jacqui) Schneider of Bainbridge Island; sister, Helen (George) Best of Bainbridge Island; daughters, Debbie (Robert) Barker of Joplin, MO and Gerrie (Frank) Bartholomew of Bonney Lake; grandchildren, Jay Keen, John Keen, Chanda (Don) Henne, Julie Bartholomew and Frank (Erika) Bartholomew; and great-grandchildren, Abagail Keen, James Keen, Savanna Keen and Lilly Bartholomew.
John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Marie Schneider; sister, Mary Anne Schneider; and brother, Richard Schneider.

A memorial service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent at 2:30 p.m. on October 11, 2011.
