Hazel was born at home in Webster County, Kansas to Alva and Fern Simnitt, who were living in Iowa. The family moved to Bonney Lake when she was 4 years old. Mom started to hone her secretarial skills by working for Attorney Dean Taylor in High School before even graduating from Sumner High School in 1944. She married Volney Hoover 6 months after graduating and they moved to Valdez Alaska with her cousins, Leona nd Anear Rodahl to help in an orphanage. Returning to Puyallup she began a long career at Weyerhaeuser. Mom enjoyed camping and riding her dirt bikes with friends and relatives. For 40 years she played the organ at her home and church with all her loved ones. She is survived by her son Randy (Lisa); daughter, Renee (Walter), three grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of friends at the Puyallup Senior Center and 1st Assembly of God Church of Puyallup where she played the organ for over 40 years. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Volney Hoover. There will be a time of visitation at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup, on Friday, May 27 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. A Celebration of her life will be on Saturday, June 4 at Sound Life Church in Tacoma. She will be entombed at Sumner City Cemetery.
