Harold was born September 25, 1923, in Lind, WA. His family moved in 1939 to an 80 acre farm in Spokane Foothills; there he graduated from West Valley High School in 1941. In 1943 Harold enlisted in the Army to support the war effort, and following an initial tour at Ft. Biggs, Texas he was sent to England and credited with involvement in campaigns that included Northern France, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland.
Following his release from the military in 1945, he attended Seattle Pacific College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While attending college in 1947, he met and married his lovely wife Betty Wheeler. Harold went on to a career as a Personal Lines Underwriter with Safeco Insurance Company in Seattle, retiring in 1986.
At the age of 94 on October 21, 2017, Harold left this world to rejoice with his heavenly father and reunite with Betty, leaving behind three children, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He is survived by children Roy Maier and family of Longview, Lois Linth and family of Gold Bar, and EldaRae LeBeau and family of Graham. He is also survived by his brother Glenn Maier of Rathdrum and sister Ruth Anderson of Kennewick.
Harold was loved and respected by all who knew him, and is greatly missed. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held October 28th at 2:00 pm at Brookdale of Puyallup, located at 123 4th Avenue NW. Harold will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery with full military honors.
