Douglas Duane Bowen (Doug) of Puyallup, passed away September 6, 2010 from complications of lung cancer. Born January 8, 1945 to Roy and Pearl E. Bowen in Minneapolis Minnesota. Doug is survived by his brother William Bowen (Debra), sisters Marlys Smith and Kathy Wallace (Jeff), daughter Kristi Smith (Brian), and his only grand child, Mackenzie. Doug will be missed by his many cousins, four Nephews, and five nieces. He was loved as a brother by his best friends Brian Petrovich (Katie), Steve Smith (Gretchen), and Scott Kraemer (Linda).
Doug, a Vietnam veteran, joined the Navy in 1965 and was assigned to the USS Chevalier (DD805) in 1966. In 1968 he was assigned to the USS Walker where he joined Special Forces and was nominated for the Navy Commendation Medal. He honorably left the Navy in 1971 and shortly after joined the ranks of Teamsters Local 313 as a driver for the United Parcel Service where he retired in 1997.
Doug spent his retirement hunting throughout the North and Midwest regions supplying his family and friends with game meat that ranged from turkey to boar (we're still chewing) as well as elk and venison. He promoted gun safety through instructing hunters young and old at the Paul Bunyan gun range. He shared his love of fishing with those who loved him with many trips for salmon, sturgeon, and halibut. He lived and died with the values of love, honor, and freedom. "We love you - you are our hero"
