Claire grew up on a farm in Illinois with his seven siblings. They learn the meaning of hard work at an early age, yet they always had time as a family. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force (then called the Army Air Corps) he served our country until 1966. Although he did not always agree with those holding political office he was a proud American, American history was his passion.
He was an avid fisherman, always keeping his pole ready in the trunk of his car. Hearing the fishing was great in the state of Washington, in 1967 he moved his family from New Jersey to Sumner, WA where he enjoyed many years casting his line from chartered boats off the coast to fly fishing in the lakes and rivers. He joined the Puyallup Elks in 1968 and moved up the chairs to Exhaled Ruler. He was an active member of the VFW and proudly sold his share of Poppies. He was a loyal fan of the Mariners and Seahawks, despite his ranting and raving he rarely missed watching a game.
Claire is predeceased by his wife Erna, his three sons Clifford, Rainier & Roy, his great granddaughter Tova, four brothers and his sister. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Billingsley, his grandchildren Crystal Szilard, Mikki Brooks , Broc Morgan and Paul Morgan , his six great grandchildren and his two brothers.
Dad you taught us the meaning of a keeping a strong family, work ethics, to be a proud American, how to tie a fishing line, the love of reading and how to play a mean game of cribbage. You were not only my Dad, you were my friend. I thank you for all you for all you taught us, your sound advice, for sharing the stories of your life, making me laugh and always being there for us.
Dad, You did a great job. It is ok to rest now.
