Walter Edwin Davis

Walter E Davis, 97, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on July 10th, 2022 at the age of 97. He frequently said he didn’t know how he lived that long, and if you heard some of his stories, you’d wonder how he lived to 30. Born in Newcomerstown, Ohio on Nov. 6, 1924, raised in Cleveland, graduated from Cleveland East High and studied engineering at Chicago Technical College. Walt spent over 49 years in construction with time out for school and the Marine Corps during World War II. Walt married Fran Albert in 1948. His work took them to Chicago before settling in Euclid, Ohio. Here they raised their three daughters Carol, Christie, and Kay. Walt was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in East Cleveland for more than 49 years. Walt and Fran moved to Hudson, Ohio and became the much-envied “snowbirds” and spent winters in Punta Gorda, FL. Fran passed away here in 1997. Walt was most recently a member of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda. He married Mary Alice Bradley in 1998. As a 32nd degree Mason he had been active in the patrol unit of Al Koran Shrine. He enjoyed reading, gardening, bowling, and golf along with family activities. He especially enjoyed his retirement years as a winter resident in Punta Gorda, FL. Walt was active in his community and developed a social calendar that would rival any. He played cards, went to dances with Fran in their younger years, bowled, and enjoyed celebrations at the community center. Walt had many loves in life including his family, books, and ice cream - in no particular order. He is missed by his three daughters, Carol Davis (Dale) Yoger, Christie Davis and Kay Davis (Greg) Warren, grandchildren Kevin (Nicole) Fleming, Lauren Fleming, Sam (Chris) Yeagle and Julia (Sean) Warren, great grandchildren Bodhi and Kali Fleming, Theo Fleming, and Alexis and Walter Yeagle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 49 years Fran and his second wife of 19 years Mary Alice. There will be a celebration of a long life well-lived in Punta Gorda at a later date.
