Richard Gregory Swizdor, age 70, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 7th, 2022. He was born on January 30, 1952 in Auburn, NY to Peter and Stella Swizdor, who preceded him in death. After graduating from high school in 1970, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until 1974. After an honorable discharge, he earned an Associate’s degree at Syracuse University and worked for New York State in the Syracuse Housing Authority until his retirement.
Richard was married to Cathy Gwinn and is survived by their children Richard, John and Joseph. He was then married to Jennifer Egan and is survived by their children, Meehye (Swizdor) Cunningham, Jin Sook Swizdor and Bhola Swizdor. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Avery, Samantha, Parker, Johnnie, Emily, Ethan, Kara, Evelyn, and Xian; his 3 siblings: Patti (Swizdor) Matthiessen, Arthur and Larry Swizdor; and his former spouse, Christine Swizdor.
Richard was an accomplished martial arts competitor in Taekwondo. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, bicycling, skiing, camping trips to the Adirondacks and riding his Harley Davidson.
The family requests that all cards be sent to Kays-Ponger Funeral Home in Port Charlotte, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SWFL Birds of a Feather Rescue & Rehabilitation in Cape Coral. There will be a ceremony at Sarasota National Cemetery on a date to be announced to inter his ashes with military honors.
