Miss you David. Another thank you for all the times you extended yourself to help me through many medical issues for myself and my children.  I've known you since we were both in our twenties and I'm very grateful for that.

Today it has been a year, I hope you are watching down on me and helping guide me through this hard time. We both loved VBA and you always showed an interest.  Forgive me for ever disbelieving in you. It is hard to navigate this life, especially when you feel so much passion about medicine and doing the right thing. Rest in peace Doc!

Irene your patient that’s lost without you!

My daughter called from Florida from where only months before she had moved.  She was distraught and crying hysterically; she had just scratched her eye and was in terrible pain.  But I was in Pennsylvania and far away.  Fortunately, my wife and I were patients of Dr. Klein so I called his office.  
Dr. Klein personally took my call, asked for my daughter’s cell phone number and then said to me, "Don’t worry John, I’ll take care of her.”  
And he did, he called Joanna, had her come in immediately and treated her.  And then he followed up with her care, repeatedly contacting her by phone and personally seeing that everything went well.  He was a godsend!   My daughter’s big blue eyes are healthy and fine today – because of him.
I will always be grateful to Dr. Klein.  He was a man of kindness, compassion and love.  He knew what a child’s health meant to a parent and he acted selflessly by showing it.
My family will always remember Dr. Klein and continue to pray for him.  He was a man with a true heart of gold.

It's been a year and I still think of him often and really miss him.

I knew this day was coming and I am heartbroken.   I have so many memories of David, all of them good...like the time I was on the  Charlotte County Chamber Beutification Committee and asked Dave to help dig and  plant bushes, etc at the  exit of Rte. 17 in Punta Gorda.   Of course David was there working 💪 harder than everyone to get the job done!  How I loved that man!

Thank you for telling me to wear extra eyes while driving. I appreciate your work and thank you for caring about your patients. Rest well

Thank you for being the first to identify my son vision issues and making great recommendations for us. He is 16 now and he is wearing contacts.

My mother and I met Dr Klein at the war memorial park in Punta Gorda. He was a volunteer there and very warm and friendly. After talking to him for a while, we found out he was an eye doctor and my mother, my  husband and I became his patients. We will all miss him.

My heart felt condolences to his family, I was so saddened when I walked up to his office door yesterday and read the sign posted on the door. He was genuinely a great Dr. and wonderful man. He came to the hospital when I was having pressure and fluid behind my eyes and the only Dr out of a team of Drs who came in who knew exactly what was happening. I had even bought him a little Olaf figure to give him at my next visit!  🥲.  Rest peacefully Dr. Klein you will for sure be missed! 🙏

The Best Dr I ever had ,he new that I had PH along with Glaucoma before my Primary and he comforted me ,Ijust found out today as my pharmacy couldn’t fill my prescription and I knew something was wrong …I googled Dr Klein and was in shock to learn of his passing😢

From the Metyk family, we are so sorry to hear about the passing of such a great doctor. I had just recently saw Dr. Klein for five days in the hospital as he was very concerned I could go blind. I have never met such a compassionate doctor. Just to show what kind of a doctor he was, a young lady was in the office at the window and I overheard her story that she was assaulted and just had a bubble surgery on her eye by another doctor far away and was frightened that it had come out of place. She had hardly any money and had to drive far away. Dr Klein came out and told her he would see her immediately and don't worry about money, that was who Dr. Klein was. He will be a huge loss to the community 😢 😔 💔 God Bless him and family and please let us know about services.

Dr. Klein was so dedicated to serving the people of Charlotte County. He was involved with The Vietnam Memorial Wall in P.G., The Military Heritage Museum, The Peace River Wildlife Sanctuary, The Virginia B. Andes Medical Clinic, his patients and family and much more.  I met him through Fawcett Hospital in the 1980s and worked with his wife Stephanie at Charlotte Community Rehab Center. He frequently stopped in to give her little gifts and chocolate. He even bought us a mini tv with attached VCR so we could do The Jane Fonda Workout of all things.. He was always so sweet and a perfect gentleman. He will be missed so much by all who knew him. I am not good at expressing myself so I will just say I will greatly miss the man who has been my friend and doctor for 40 years.

I loved working with Dr Klein. He was so wonderful to all the staff and their families at Fawcett.  He will be missed.

I was shocked to hear of Dr. Klein’s passing. What an amazing humanitarian and supporter of the arts he was. The PCHS Enharmonics sang at his house for Christmas for years and David and Stephanie were so good to the kids. David would sit in the couch and listen to me play lol. He was in every sense of the word a true mensch and will be missed.

My heart goes out to Dr. Klein’s family.  My late husband knew him very well and whenever we saw him out eating with his beautiful wife he was always so pleasant to say hello.  He was a beautiful soul and will be missed dearly.  God Bless.  May you rest in Heaven.

I embarrassed Dr. Klein one day at Panera Bread. I declared him publicly how wonderful he was to my daughter Kate. When her hopes were down on her medical issue . He made her his case study. I wanted him to know just how much of a difference he made just by caring. A fantastic, not to be forgotten man. But....then he did call my daughter and said " I think I met your mom just now ." Hope I didn't embarrass him tooooo much...sure glad I did that day. Never forget to tell someone the difference they make in your lives while there here in front of you !

Dr David Klein was my daughters first doctor I was a single mother in 2010 of a 12 yr daughter moved here from Michigan she was having eye issue seen Dr Klein she had Mich medicaid he did not charge us a dime for her 2 visits I will be forever grateful  to him he was a wonderful doctor and will be greatly missed.

Dr. Klein and his family constantly gave back our community. He was non stop with donating his time, talent and loyalty to helping “all of us”.  So sad to see him leave us and so touched and blessed to have worked with him in the medical community.

A wonderful man and a great doctor. He will be sorely missed in our community.

David, you and I became friends caring for HIV/Aids people many moons ago. We served on United Way Board together and many other community Ecumenical outreach services.

To his family and community we have lost a brilliant light. I am truly sorry he is gone but he will never be forgotten. His light still shines on us all but from a better place!

Dr Klein was my doctor. He was one of the few genuinely nice people  you would ever meet. He was kind and gentle and told me “if you can’t afford your eye meds, please call me.” He was the light in this community, helping anyone who needed it. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I know I surely will. I will have to find another ophthalmologist, but none will be David Klein. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am saddened by David's passing and offer my sincerest condolences. He was always giving of himself and encouraging others to give to worthy causes in Charlotte County. Here he is pictured helping at the Military Heritage Museum to raise money during last year's Giving Challenge. The quintessential philanthropist!

Doctor Klein was my doctor for more than 20 years. I will miss his kindness, his competence.
And our community will miss all the good works. He did, he was a truly fine human being.

Dr. Klein embodied selflessness. I am honored to have been a small part of his efforts in our community to help those living with HIV/AIDS; to cure Hepatitis C; and to support all in need of healthcare, regardless of their insurance coverage. His vision of a better world extended well beyond his own field of ophthalmology. We were so blessed to have Dr. Klein in our community, and he will live on in so many hearts.

Dr. KLEIN was a caring and compassionate physician. He is great loss to our community. His remarkable charitable contributions have brought great support to the needy. He was our family ophthalmologist and he will surely be missed.

Dr. Klein was like family.  He was our family eye doctor for DECADES.  I'm 49 and he helped my grandfathers uncle.....that's how far back we go.  He has helped my parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, Aunts, Uncles, friends and most recently my youngest daughter.  My heart is so broken.  I will never find another eye doctor who was as compassionate, caring, gentle and kind as he was.  I feel like I lost another grandfather.....may you rest in peace Dr. David Klein. Dr. Klein was an amazing human being and a great caring kind Doctor. He found my sons cancer 35 yrs ago and has lately been taking care of my daughters eyesight since her chairi surgery. He would text her 3 times a day to check on her.  We will miss your kindness.

Dr. Klein was the most caring doctor to our children when he discovered they had a rare eye condition. He used them as his own case studies, saving us much money as a young parents. He followed their progress, sent them for additional testing in Gainesville and had a great bedside manner. The community at large and other parts of the world were fortunate to receive the best care from him. He was a giver and will be missed greatly.

Dr Klein was like a second dad to me. I worked with him for 20 years. He was such a kind hearted man. He was given life to take care of people and that is what he did. I am going to miss him so much. He was always there for me, for my family and friends that needed his medical attention or expertise. He loved to bring in his decorations for the holidays especially Christmas and he would have me decorate the office every year. He had a love for snowman ⛄️ and whenever we texted I would always put this emoji in our texts and he loved that. My heart is broken knowing he is no longer here on earth. Until we meet again Dr Klein 🙏❤️

My doctor for 35 years, my boss for a decade, my friend in the end and my mom’s guardian angel. It’s hard to put into words when explaining how wonderful this man was. What God put in this mans heart to accomplish and do for others without expecting anything in return was the most beautiful thing. I can remember being 15 yrs old and he saved my sight in my left eye, I can remember my grandmother having a bad eye infection and he met her and my mom on Thanksgiving. As my mom reached the end of her life, he stepped in and made sure she was comfortable and we could be by her side while everyone else overlooked her.  The magical Christmas parties where he truly was in his element, in the driveway blowing fake snow for the kids to enjoy. The joy he experienced with my daughter getting a full ride to Princeton and letting me know, as a single mom, “job well done, kid!” I love you Dr Klein , I will miss your monthly check~ins but I will see you again and I will remember you in every snowman I see, I know I will be seeing more than I ever have before. You already started showing me them yesterday.  XO

I am still in some type of shock over this tragic news .... Doctor Klein was the one opthamologist who took a chance with me to fix my left lazy eye that I had from childhood and I was now in my 60s!   He seemed to be a quiet man but so caring.... It  was not even a year ago that he did my surgery and as others have said, he would text me and I would text him back with any questions, photos of my eye, etc.   He was genuinely the best.... I think he was a unique man.   Everything he did for the community is just outstanding!   Also you could tell that his staff absolutely loved him.....he was very special to them.   I can only imagine how his family and staff are feeling today.  My condolences to all and may he rest in eternal peace.

Doctor Kleins family wouldn’t know me personally but I knew Doctor Klein. I have been a patient of Doctor Klein for 5 years. I was a younger patient of his with an autoimmune disease so I had to make frequent trips to the office quite a lot throughout the years. We labeled me the “broken ankloysing spondylitis girl”, because I always had something Doctor Klein would need to help me figure out or fix. Doctor Klein meant the world to me. He was the sweetest, most down to earth guy who truly wanted to help me. Not only did he treat my eye, he would be the guy I could text on the weekend and ask him to checkout my blood work if something I felt was a cause for concern. He was the guy who loved snowmen: the snowmen my children would look forward to seeing around the office at Christmas time. To Mrs. Klein, I felt like I knew you personally. He would always calm my fears in regards to the unknowing related to my  autoimmune disease by talking to me about you. He was one of a kind for sure. I will truly miss him. I am sorry Klein family for your loss.

As fine a physician and as towering a social contributor as Dave was, Dave was an even better friend . This was true even though our contact over the last 45 years had been rarely more than telegraphic e-mails. So I can't begin to imagine the loss being experienced by  family and colleagues that were in constant touch, not to mention the countless members of the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda community that knew him personally through his equally countless acts of service. My deepest condolences to each and all of you.
