Hoss was born in Punta Gorda to Carl “Sand Bram” and Ethel Jones on May 27, 1961. From humble beginnings, mowing lawns with his friend at age 12, he built a life rooted in hard work and love for his hometown. He spent most of his adult life in marine construction, the past 35 years at Kelly Brothers, Inc. He achieved his Marine Merchant Certification in 2014 and was a Certified Crane Operator, demonstrating his dedication to mastering his craft. In his free time, Hoss was an avid fisherman and hunter who cherished moments spent outdoors. He cared deeply about his family, friends, and trees/plants and was known for his enduring kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Hoss was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethel Jones, sisters Peggy Ogle, Sarah Sullivan, and brothers Gary Dale Mooney, Larry “Pee Wee” Mooney, William “Viddam” Jones.
He is survived by his wife Bettiann of 39 years, daughters Kerriann (Richard) Bigham, Nikki Cossens, 3 grandchildren Cora, Wayne, and Garrett Bigham, sisters Linda (Jerry) Parsons, June Jones, Patricia Mason, and brother John “John John” Jones. Also, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Hoss was a life-long resident of Charlotte County. He will be remembered as a man that inspired others with his work ethic, love for his family, and touched lives of everyone who knew him. Hoss’ memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will start at 11:00am on Monday, January 20th, 2025, followed by a service at noon at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A graveside farewell will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery 9500 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A reception for family and friends will be held at his residence following all services (address will be provided at the funeral home).
