William Boyd

Mr. Boyd was born and raised in Lynnville, TN. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, then attended Tennessee Tech University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in math and education. He also graduated from George Peabody College (Vanderbilt University) with a master’s degree in education. He had a long career as a teacher in the Jones Elementary School in Lynnville and then in the Metro Nashville Public Schools. He ended his teaching career at Hattie Cotton Elementary School in Nashville, where he served as principal.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He touched each life he met and will be missed by all. He enjoyed dining out, traveling, and spending time with family. He enjoyed the company of his neighbors and dogs, especially Bill’s dog Roxy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Alice Hill Boyd, his parents James Wright and Katie Maria (Grammar), and brother James Howard.

The surviving family includes daughter Mary Jane (Warren) Ziegler, son Bill (Elizabeth) Boyd, and grandchildren Alice, Will, Camilla, and Artie.

He was raised in the Presbyterian Church in Lynnville and later attended Hillsboro Church of Christ in Nashville.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville, TN.
