William Cook

William H. Cook Of Craig, Co. Formerly of Pueblo, CO went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2013. He passed away at the family home.

Billy was born on Christmas Day 1924, at The Buckhorn lodge, in Norwood, CO, to Jesse B. Cook and Opal Verona Holybee-Cook.

He served in the Army during WWII, serving in the Philapines, Korea, and the Asian pacific theatre.He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, the Purple heart and sharp shooters award along with various other conduct medals.

After arriving back from overseas, he made his home in his hometown of Pueblo, CO. Where he was to meet his wife of 66 years, Lois Marie Fetty. They were introduced by family members at a dance. They married January 28, 1947.

They had been married 66 years when he passed. Along with his wife Lois Marie Fetty-Cook, He is also survived by a sister Iona Cook-Stanley, Brother in law Raymond C. Fetty, and wife. And several nieces and nephews.

Out of this marriage they have 3 children.

And an adopted "daughter" Phyliss Phillips.

Grandchildren Dallas Guy Cook and wife Angel, Anessa Faye Cook-Kopsa and husband Kent, Houston Allen Kowach and wife Korinna.

Kristen Marie Kowach.

Great grandchildren are Meredith ,Shyla , Kendra, Christian, Jerren, Tegan , Xavier, and Sophia.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, 3 sister, (Vera, Nina, Mabel Jeanne) and 1 brother Jess B Cook Jr. 3 sister-in-laws and 3 brother-in-laws.

And a Grandaughter Crystal Dawn Cook.

Billy was an active member of UMWA, VFW, NRA until his death. His past affliliations were with the American Legion, and the Cortez chapter of the Oddfellows.

He was a Member of Calvary Baptist Church in Craig CO.

After returning from the service he continued to help his Uncle Charlie with the Buckhorn Lodge in his meat processing plant. He also helped with the expansion during the 1950's and into early 1960's. He continued to have a great tie to the Disappointment Valley from his birth to his youth.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and camping with friends and family.

He also enjoyed his farm life, with his wife and children, along with several of his "adopted" nieces and nephews. While being employed with the CFI as a ditch rider. He loved his gardening, his horses and his cows.

Later, the family moved to Cortez, CO, as he tried his hand at enterpenuership. He owned and maintained a service station. He loved telling the stories about those days.

In 1969, Billy and Lois, with youngest daughter moved to the Denver area, where he was employed as a welder for several years.

Billy and Lois enjoyed their dancing at the DAV.

In 1976, Billy and family moved to Craig, CO. And made their final home there.

He was employed with Cyprus Coal, underground mostly as a mechanic and welder, and various other jobs until he retired in 1988.

He continued to stay active with UMWA, until his death. He enjoyed his Union brothers and sisters. He was also very active in his VFW.

He had also become active in his later years as to expressing his political views, and had found that to be his way of helping the country out. He was a very proud American. He never stopped telling all that he came into contact, "God Bless America" Whether a bank teller or a cashier at the grocery store.

He loved doing mechanical work in his garage, along with welding. He continued to stay active with quite a few activities even after his retirement.

Billy helped raised quite a few of his nieces and nephews, throughout his life. And also helped raise grandkids.

He loved his garden and continued to take care of his large garden. He also had found a new best friend in his last year, a boxer, named Franzi.

Visitation, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, and Funeral Service 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, both at Imperial Funeral Home. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens.
