Wes was born to Arcu and Gladys Combs in Pritchett, Colorado as the seventh of nine children. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Colleen Combs; his four children, Brent (Kelly) Combs, Todd (Becky) Combs, Clarke (Kim) Combs, and Chandra (Chris) Hardwick; nine grandchildren, Christopher Combs, Hannah (Conner) Koonce, Makala (Clay) Jones, Trace (Tawni) Combs, Tyler (Bryce) Combs, Orrin (Eileen) Combs, Ethan Combs, Reagan Combs, and Kaitlyn Combs; ten great-grandchildren; his brother Melvin (Carol) Combs; as well as nieces and nephews.
Wes grew up with a love for sports, lettering in basketball, baseball, track and football in high school, and enjoyed raising animals. When Wes was 19 years old, he and his brother Mel moved to Pueblo to work at CF&I’s steel mill. Wes was laid off from the steel mill after 27 years and then worked as the property maintenance manager for the First Presbyterian Church for 20 years.
One of Wes’ older brothers was healed of a clubbed foot after being prayed for at a revival service in California which deeply impacted the Arcu Combs family. Thus, in the 1950’s when Wes was in his twenties, he attended an Oral Roberts Tent Revival Service at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. It was at the fairground’s revival service that Wes decided to dedicate his heart and life to following Jesus. This decision changed him forever.
Wes had a passion for studying the Bible and had unique ways of sharing with others about the holy scriptures. His favorite topic was the baptism of the Holy Spirit found in the book of Acts in chapters 2, 8, 9, 10 and 19. He enjoyed going to the Pueblo flea market and garage sales to share his faith while buying and collecting “good deals” along the way. He raised Arabian horses, pigeons, cows, goats and other farm animals throughout his entire life. He will always be remembered for his love for the Bible and family, his sense of humor, his enjoyment of sports, especially basketball, his animals, and his daily fried potatoes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Imperial Funeral Home and Cemetery.
