Robert Lorenz “R.L.” Day, 80, born to the union of Clarence and Ruth Day on June 18, 1932 in Alamosa, Colorado and passed away March 6, 2013 in Pueblo. Survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Cleo; children, Bobby (Roxann), Cindy (Lyle) Schmidt, Dr. Greg (Nora) and Pam (Mick) Rafter; grandchildren, Jaelee Fetrow, Steven and Amanda Schmidt, Barb Sines, DJ and Jeff Shiflett, Bobby, Cleo, and Oliva Day, Chelsea and Micah Rafter; great-grandchildren, Kalea, Tayten, and Jace Fetrow, Kayden Sines, Carson and Grayson Shiflett; half-sister, Mary Melbihess; sister-in-law, Betty Day; and his loyal companion Ko-Ko. Also survived by brother-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Doug Day. Robert attended school at Centennial High School followed by Wentworth College, Colorado Teacher’s College and graduated from Pueblo Junior College. He played football for Wentworth and PJC. He was a P.E. Teacher at Minnequa School. He began his lumber career at Brown Lumber, and later became part owner of BMC (Economy) Lumber and LMH Building Center. He was active in the Centennial Bulldogs 1950 Reunion Committee. Robert served as the President of both the Mountain States Lumber Dealers Association and the Homebuilders Association. He also was a past Elder of Trinity Lutheran Church. Robert enjoyed the lumber industry and worked up until his passing. Family was always his number one priority. He will be remembered as a strong, generous, devoted, loving husband, father, grandpa and faithful servant.
