Michael Vincent Giarratano (Mike Giarratano) left this earth to be with his heavenly father on February 1, 2023. Mike was born on August 15, 1927, to Joseph and Rose Giarratano. He married the love of his life, Lucy (Sue) Chimento, on September 20th, 1947. She later passed on July 25, 2014. They were married 67 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mike attended Sacred Heart School until the 8th grade when he had to quit school and help out the family. At the age of 17, Mike joined the Merchant Marines on the SS Gershwin and later on the SS Philip Victory, both in the Sea of Japan and North Africa. When Mike returned to Pueblo, CO, he worked at the CF&I (Colorado Fuel and Iron Steel Mill) until he retired in 1970. He made his family his priority, spending many hours playing and working with their two girls, Nancy and Susan. Mike was an avid fisherman, and loved to take his family camping. Mike and Sue were known for their generous spirits. Every Christmas for years, they would bring in homeless children so they too could celebrate the birth of Christ. Mike is survived by his most special children Sister Nancy Rose Giarratano, OP, Susan Genova Humphrey (Rocky), his adopted daughter, Sister Betty Werner, OP; his grandsons Michael Genova JR, and Grant Genova (Shawna), who were the apple of his eye; his great grandchildren Gage, Charli Jo, Knox Grayson; his sister Rosalie; many Godchildren; his nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends. Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Sam, the love of his life Sue, and his son-in-law, Michael Genova SR, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and nieces. Special thanks to my sister Susan, who has faithfully been the caretaker of our Grandpa Joe, Nana, mother, and father. I am so proud to call her my baby sister. Thanks also to Susan’s husband, Rocky, and her sister-in-law Mary Ann Valdez, for their constant care and support. Extra thanks to the Pueblo Rural Fire Department, who called him Grandpa Ragu, and always came to his rescue. The viewing will be held at TG McCarthy on Tuesday February 7, 2023 from 4-6pm.
