Mabel Esquibel Baca was born April 20, 1923 in Sabinoso, NM to Marcelino and Gabrielita (Maestas) Esquibel. In 1946 she married Joe Raymond Baca, with whom she had four children. In 1973 Joe Raymond was tragically killed in an accident at the CF&I. The greatest joys of her life were her children, extended family, and friends. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining. Mabel’s sense of humor and quirky comments (aka “Mabelisms”) will be greatly missed. We loved her strong example to us about how to live life and carry on through adversity. We know how much she loved us—and we loved her. Five years ago Mabel was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In April of 2010 her children moved her to Leavenworth, KS, and on Tues. Sept. 13, Mabel died peacefully with her family at her side. She is survived by her four children: Joseph Eugene (DeeDee Wright) of Pueblo; Rudy (Kim) of Parker, CO; Ernie (Debbie) of Loveland, CO; and Lorraine (Ray) Amparan of Leavenworth, KS; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, two brothers, numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation 2 – 5pm Monday at Imperial Funeral Home. Services, Holy Family Church: Rosary Recitation 7pm Monday and Funeral Mass 10 am Tuesday, with interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice of Kansas City through the funeral home office.
