Lois Jones, a long-time resident of Pueblo, passed away in Santa Fe, NM on March 18, 2023. Lois, a graduate of Wayne State University, moved to Pueblo in 1960 with her then-husband Robert Watson. She taught special education at Central Elementary for many years, before transferring first to Hyde Park Elementary and then to Roncalli Jr. High, where she taught English. She was always thrilled when former students recognized her and told her how much they had learned from and loved having her as their teacher. She retired from District 60 in 1990. After retiring, she was finally able to indulge her life-long desire to have a horse, and ended up with quite a few! She and one of her other horse-loving friends co-founded the Pueblo West Horseman’s Association where she was very active in their shows and competitions before stepping away in 2004. In addition to taking care of her beloved horses, Lois sang for many years in various church choirs, played in the bell choir at United Methodist Church, and was an avid reader who also loved to sew and knit.
Lois was preceded in death by her father Thomas, step-father Charles, mother Annice, brother Tommy, and widowed by Robert Jones of Pueblo in 2011. She is survived by her son Charles Watson (Sara) of Ventura, CA; daughter Jan Watson of Santa Fe, NM; sons Robert Watson and James Watson (Sharon), both of Santa Rosa, CA; and grandchildren Matthew, Erin, Daniel, Chloe, Andie, Rachel, and Devon. She is also survived by her cousin and closest childhood friend, Dorothy Hargrave of Wisconsin.
Interment will be at Imperial Memorial Gardens after a private family service.
