Lila Vigil, 97, passed away October 12, 2023. She was born on May 26, 1926, in Chama Colorado, to Rebecca and Tobias Valdez. She is preceded in death by Evaristo, her husband of 56 years before his passing in 2005, her son Jerry Vigil, whom she missed and thought of everyday. Her parents Rebecca and Tobias, brother Paul, sisters Rosenda and Frances, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and her sons-in-law Gary Hotzel and Bob DeLaTorre.
She is survived by her daughters, Martha (Silverio) Marquez, Betty Hotzel, Priscilla (Randy) Padilla, Dorothy (Roy), Diane (Dave) Sandoval, her grandson Jerry Prien, whom she raised as her own son and son-in-law Tom Finn, who called her “Kettles”. Grandchildren- Sal, Jr., Rhonda (Vince), Nichole (Joe), Dennis (Adrienne), Paul, Bertha (Paul), Heather (Mark), Daniel, Derek, Margarita, Mateo, and Enrique. Great Grandchildren- Brandon M. (Brandy), Gerald Jr. (Leigha), Rueben (Britney), Brandon P. (Vanessa), Kamisha, Jeremiah, Rabecca (Blaine), John (Michelle), Jazmyn (Joel), Rylee (Ben), Chantal, Raquel, Damian, D’Angelo, Julian, Gabriel, Lorenzo, Karlye, Sammy, Isaiah, Stevie Lynn, Elijah, Alexis, and Aadyn. Great-Great Grandchildren- Brianna, Jordan, Leo Rey, Adrianna, Kevin, Gerald III, Zoey, Elena, Rueben Jr., Ayliana, Ezequel, Vincenzo, Roman, Kiera, Autumn, Gianna, E’Luciano, Arecela, Maddis, Tittus, Ella and Jaylin. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gus (Juanita), Wilene, Raymond (Sally), Linda (Benny), Theresa, Helen, Lorraine, Sandra and numerous nieces and nephews that she spoke with often.
She worked many years in the fields harvesting potatoes and picking chili, and 17 years in the laundry at Ramada Inn.
She loved her yearly trips to Vegas, (17 years straight), her yearly birthday trips to Cripple Creek with her daughters, her morning conversations with Jerry and Martha, spending time with her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, playing cards, and going to Bingo.
She was very outspoken, always speaking the truth with a sense of humor. She was known as a classy lady. She was always dressed nicely with her hair, makeup and nails always done. Most importantly, she was the Queen and heart of her family, and her legacy will live on through them.
A rosary for Lila will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 414 W. 11th Street, Pueblo, Colorado 81003. A funeral mass will occur Friday, October 20, 2023 at 9:30 am at the Cathedral as well. An interment following service Friday, October 20, 2023 at Roselawn Cemetery, 1706 Roselawn Road, Pueblo, Colorado 81006.
