LaRita was born to Monty and Mabel Hymer on October 2, 1939, in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from West High School in Denver, Colorado in 1958. On May 28, 1960, LaRita was united in marriage to Lyle Kimes. Four children were born to their family: Larry, Lenny, Linda, and Lee.
LaRita was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pueblo, Colorado, for 27 years. She loved helping in the nursery and children’s Sunday School class. She faithfully called shut-ins every week to share prayer requests and to encourage others who could not attend church in person. LaRita had a strong passion for missions work and faithfully prayed for missionaries around the world. She gave generously to missionary projects and personally supported four missionary families with monthly financial support.
Spending time with family was one of LaRita’s most favorite things. She adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. LaRita especially loved babies. Nothing made her smile more than holding a baby in her arms. She crocheted dozens of baby blankets over the years for relatives and church members. She definitely counted down the days until her great grandchildren would come visit again!
LaRita also loved hummingbirds and had numerous feeders in her yard that she could watch through the window. In addition, LaRita had an amazing collection of hummingbird decorations inside the house! She was famous for challenging her grandchildren and great grandchildren to see if they could count all of the hummingbirds, although no one could ever count high enough.
LaRita was preceded in death by her parents, Monty and Mabel; her brother, Vernon; her dear husband, Lyle; her son, Lenny; and her son-in-law, Mark. She will be deeply missed by her children, Larry (Susan), Linda, and Lee, and by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A viewing for LaRita will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Liberty Baptist Church, 2207 29th Street, Pueblo, Colorado 81008 with the funeral service to follow at 2 PM. LaRita will be laid to rest at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Liberty Baptist Church’s missionary fund.
