Born January 15, 1950, passed on to eternity on December 24, 2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Mauro and Alvira (Bartolo) Mauro, her uncles Donald Mauro and Frank Bartolo (Linda), aunt Helen Mosco (Harry), and special cousin Margaret Bartolo. She is survived by her brother Donald C. Mauro and sister Mary Jean Mauro (Stephen Shapiro); her aunt Linda (Frank) Bartolo, three nieces who she adored, Kristin, Kara, and Kaylee Shapiro, cousins Joann, Patty, and Harry (Cathy) Mosco and Jodene (Doug) Kissler, Frank (Diana), Michael (Kyle), Anthony (Sandy), David (Joelyn) Bartolo, Marilou (Joe) Pisciotta, Eleanor (Bill) Rusler, Tony, Don, Dave, Dewayne and Dominic Salameno and numerous other cousins.
Kathleen was a long time educator and reading specialist, serving as a teacher at Baxter Elementary for 10 years and then as Principal at Avondale Elementary for 16 years. She received numerous awards and accolades for her teaching skills, in the including the Distinguished Teacher Award from The Governors Institute of Educators. In her role as a teacher and principal she touched the lives of thousands of students. Her greatest joy was seeing “her” kids grown up and become productive adults. She was a caring person with a big heart and all who knew her can attest to her grace and compassion. Kathleen will be dearly missed by her friends, family, and all those students whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at George McCarthy Funeral Home from 5 PM until 7 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday December 30 at 2 PM at St. Joseph’s Church, 1145 South Aspen Road, Pueblo, 81006.
