Katherine was born in Denver, Colorado on June 26, 1943. She moved to Climax, Colorado when she was a toddler. She was fortunate to grow up in this small mining town as the oldest daughter of 8 siblings raised by her parents Peleg Morgan and Eleanor Wadsworth. She loved recounting stories of skiing, playing outdoors and at the rec center, and all of the shenanigans with her and her siblings and friends growing up in Climax. The summer before her senior year, the town of Climax moved all of the houses and residents to Leadville where Katherine graduated from high school in 1961.
It was in Leadville, Colorado that she met and married her husband Rego Omerigic. They were married on August 22, 1964, and shared 57 years together. They raised 4 children, and as a family they enjoyed many camping trips, and fishing was one of Katherine’s favorite activities. She and her husband loved taking long road trips to see family and historical sites. Katherine adored and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Katherine spent most of her working years as an Administrative Assistant. She worked at Lake County High School, St. Vincent’s General Hospital, and West Central Mental Health. She was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was very active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She had a passion for helping others and this led her to serve as an Advocate for domestic violence victims in Lake County for more than 2 decades.
Katherine was a kind, giving person who loved other people. She would often make friends out of strangers as she would easily strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She will be remembered by those who knew her as having a great sense of humor and she enjoyed joking with them. Everyone said if Kathy wasn’t giving you a hard time and teasing you, she must not like you.
She will be missed by her sons, Rego A. (Denise) Omerigic of Westcliffe, and Brian (Bella) Omerigic of Grand Junction, her daughter, Valerie (David) Sahyoun of Magdalena, NM along with her 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Rego Omerigic and her daughter Melissa (Omerigic) Gibson.
A rosary and mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow the graveside service.
