Joe M. Garcia

Joe “Papa Joe” Garcia Jr., 90, born October 25, 1921 in Magote, CO passed away June 9, 2012. He married Ernestine B. “Tiny” Garcia May 12, 1946 in Antonito, CO. She preceded him in March 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents Mauricio and Margarita Garcia and his brothers and sisters. Joe is survived by his Children Bobby Lee (Iris) Garcia, Linda Rivas, Michael (Janet) Garcia and Tommy (Ruth) Garcia; grandchildren Rich (Leticia) Garcia, Lonny (Carol) Garcia, Michael Shane Garcia, Toni Lynn Rivas, Keith David Rivas and Michael Dane (Jessica) Garcia. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Joe served in the US Army during WWII serving in the African and European Theatres as a medic; he then worked for the Pueblo Army Depot for 30 years receiving numerous awards and certificates. He loved softball and golf. At his request, there will be no viewing. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 2:00 pm Imperial Funeral Home Chapel. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you his caregiver of 9 years Irene Gallegos. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.
