2023 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his lovely wife, Hazel of 74 years, his
children and other family members.
He was born on December 4, 1927 to the union of Juan and Belen Luna who preceded him in death. He
was also preceded in death by his brother’s Frank and Ralph Luna and his daughter-in-law, Cathy Luna.
He married the love of his life, Hazel Whatley on August 13, 1949 in La Junta, Colorado. He leaves to
cherish his memory his wife, Hazel, his sister, Virginia Azuela, 3 children, Alan, Steve (Bertha) and
Suzanne, 6 grandchildren, Anthony, Alan Jr., Steve Jr. (Tiffany), Samuel, AJ and Kayla (Trevor), 6 great
grandchildren, Jordan, Ian, Gabbie, Isaiah Nicholas, Neriah and Fenix, 5 great-great grandchildren,
Jaliyah, Isaiah Mathew, Jacoby, Jazelle and Mila.
Javier’s early career included a term in the US Navy onboard the USS Tarawa during WWII followed by a
brief term with the Santa Fe Railroad before moving on to the Pueblo Ordnance Depot where he retired
in 1985 with 35 years of service.
Javier enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and gambling at his favorite locales which included Las Vegas,
Laughlin and Cripple Creek. He also cherished the times he and his wife, Hazel traveled around the
country in their RV with his Brother, Ralph (Sally) Luna, friends Ted (Tive) Sanchez and Bob (Tiny)
Mestas, visiting places like Vancouver, British Columbia, Niagara Falls, New York, Branson, MO and Los
Angeles, CA. Javier was a big fan of the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets and Avalanche. His favorite activities
involved spending time with family, especially for holidays and birthdays. Javier was a member of Christ
the King Parish in Pueblo since 1961.
He will be missed by all who knew him but it is comforting to know that he is enjoying the Lord’s
company in his pain free kingdom!
Memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church, 1708 Horseshoe Drive, Pueblo, CO on October
28, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Interment service at Imperial Cemetery will be held later at a private family
ceremony.
The family wants to thank the staff at Sangre De Cristo hospice for caring for Javier and the staffs at both
US Renal and Fresenius in Pueblo West.
