Inez Marie Dickson “Dickie” Massara was born August 30, 1914 on a farm in eastern Colorado, one of eleven children. Dickie drove a horse and wagon to a one-room elementary school where all eight grades were taught. After graduating from Vernon High School at the age of 16, she entered nurses training at Beth El Hospital in Colorado Springs. It was there that she met her husband, Chuck, on a blind date in 1935. Married later that year, they celebrated 76 years of marriage in October, 2011.
Dickie loved to fish. Her largest catch was a seven-pound plus rainbow trout. She also loved bowling, was an avid reader, and spent numerous hours embroidering and knitting. Dickie had an adventurous attitude and was ready to travel on a moments notice.
In Pueblo, Dickie kept books for the family truck line, Hall Motor Freight; worked as a bookkeeper at Goldstein Truck Line and then at Merrill Axle and Wheel Service until she retired in 1976.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck; sons, John (Barbara) of Pueblo, James (Violet) of Grayson, GA, and Charles (Irene) of Bakersfield, CA; sister, Lutie Wakefield; seven grandchildren, Tony, Karen, James Jr., Debra, Janine, Michele, Troy (deceased), and Michael; twelve great-grandchildren, Anna, Joe, Jon, Suzanne, Craig, Charlie, Pete, Abby, Rachel, Heather, Kara, and Leah; and five great-great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tatum, Madison, Trevor, and Barrett.
