Helen Elizabeth Mendell, 94 of Pueblo died on June 2, 2016. She was born to Horace Burr Curtiss and Della Hooper Curtiss on February 18, 1922 in Thurman, Colorado. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Kenneth Eugene Mendell; parents Horace and Della Curtiss; sisters Bonita Leibach, Francis Wright; brothers Hiram Curtiss, Delbur Curtiss. Treasured by her children Bonnie (Frank) Cirullo of San Diego, Marilyn (Allen) Lile, Calvin (Susan) Mendell, Lori (Patrick) McGill, grandchildren Christopher (Kim) Cirullo, Cayle Cirullo, Shannan (Scott) Lane, Curt (Jennifer) Lile, Sarah (Adam) Gardner, Craig (Natalie) Mendell, Melissa (Matthew) Strasia, Alex Sedgwick, Megan McGill; great grandchildren Samantha, Sophia, and Charlotte Strasia, Colby and Camille Mendell, Ryan and Mason Lane, Carrie, Miles, and Heather Rose Gardner, and Dylan and Garrett Adams. Helen grew up in Ordway, Colorado, helping in the family hardware store, participating in friendly mischief with siblings, playing tennis or riding her bike. She and Ken married in 1943 during WWII, and started their family of four on the family farm in Avondale, later moving into town in 1956. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. Her strong willed no-nonsense personality helped her to actively live to the age of 94. Helen loved playing bridge, as well as ping pong, tennis, camping, fishing and traveling. Helen nurtured her family with the scripture that, "All things work together for good for those who love the Lord ." Romans 8:28. Helen was a member at Wesley United Methodist church where the funeral service will take place at 10am, Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.
