Gilbert M. Garcia passed away on Good Friday, April 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Dad or “Gramp”, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, traversed this world with easy optimism and with God as his first priority.
Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, Arturo and Sarah Garcia and his father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Ann Palacio, and his grandson, James Matthew Cooper.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Caroline Palacio Garcia and children; Denise (Mike) Cooper, Marty (Linda) Garcia, Mark (Karen) Garcia, Frank (Geraldine) Garcia, Ken (Cheryl) Garcia, Rae (Don) Peters and Tom Garcia (Charlene); and his grandchildren; Kelcie Cooper and fiancée Josh VanDuyn, Callie (Mike) Montez-Van Buskirk, Kayli Cooper, Jamie and Kristen Wallace, Matt Peters, Travis, Tony, Cori, Nick, Kaci, Dario James, Carliann, Kenny, Sage and Sofia Garcia. He is also survived by his brother, Earl (Gladys) Garcia.
Gilbert, a retired millwright from CF&I, spent his retirement years with Caroline hiking Bartlett trail, horseback riding and enjoying the long winters on Caroline’s Mountain, which he referred to as “a piece of Heaven”.
Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1145 S. Aspen Rd. Rosary, 7pm Tuesday, April 10th. Mass of the Resurrection, 10am Wednesday, April 11th with burial at Imperial Memorial Gardens. We welcome family and friends immediately following burial at St. Joseph’s reception hall.
