Betty entered this life Sep 10, 1936, in Reading Pennsylvania. The only child of George B. Schmick and Margaret Mary Louise (Dignan) Schmick. She graduated from Reading High School in 1954 and continued her education at Albright College also in Reading, PA. While attending college she worked as an Operating Room technician in the Reading hospital system and for Firestone testing nylon fibers, and the travel industry and then as a market researcher.
In 1958 she met and married Love of her life Doyle "Bud" E. Shelton and together they would have six children all born during Bud’s tours of service in the Marine Corps and Air Force. Three children were born in Quantico,Virginia, two at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida and one at Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Betty dedicated her life to Bud and their family, pouring all her love and energy into her children and expanded that love further to her grandchildren and her great grandchildren as they entered her life. She loved to travel both locally and internationally, enjoyed reading, sewing and anything craft related. She was a selfless person who knew only kindness and always had a warm smile to share. She will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts and in the faces of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her two children; Timothy and Andrea, her parents and her beloved Aunts Hellen Manex and Elizabeth Kachel (“The Ants”).
She is survived by her Loving Husband of 66 years, Doyle "Bud" Shelton, her children; Vicky Shelton, Shawn and Mary Beth Shelton, Tonya and Vincent Nalley and Nadine and John DeVencenty, grandchildren; Brian (Gillian) McCain, Kimberly (Heath) Pitts, Shawn McCain, Timothy (Katri) Shelton, Josh (Miranda) Shelton, Ry (Luke) Fair and Emily Fair, great grandchildren Darren, Shawn, Scarlett, Dean, Violet, Penny, Oliver, Elliot, Mila and Rhett. Also survived by special cousin;Thomas (Marie) Kachel and her brother George B. Schmick,Jr.
The family appreciates the care and support offered by Gentiva Hospice Care and Sharmar Care Facility. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice Care or the Charity of Your Choice in Betty’s name.
Services will be held at Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo, CO Saturday, September 21,2024. Viewing from 11 am to 2 pm followed by a Celebration of Life, Lunch and Fellowship from 12 pm to 2 pm.
She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, together with her infant children Timothy and Andrea, at a Date and Time yet to be determined.
