Donald W. Kuhns, 54 years old, died unexpectedly Monday evening, August 13, 2018, at his home in Pueblo West, CO. He was born on Sept 27, 1963 in Titusville, PA, before his family moved to Clintonville, PA 6 years later.
In 1973, he and his family moved to Las Animas, CO where he graduated high school in 1981. Don then attended the DeVry Institute of Technology. On Dec 27, 1985 he married Shelly Burnett Kuhns. They have three children, Casey, Amanda, and Zachery.
Don’s first job out of college was with Schlumberger in Simi Valley, CA. Over his 30 year career he traveled the world spanning Europe and Asia notably Japan, Germany, China, France, Spain and Israel. His career brought his family from California, to Texas and finally in 2005, Don and Shelly returned to Colorado to be closer to aging parents.
Donald was employed at AECOM until his passing.
Donald loved God, community, and music. He played a multitude of instruments at his church and in the community. He supported each of his children’s passions, Casey with robotics, Amanda with Music, and Zach with Music and Sports.
Donald and Shelly loved to travel by land, air, and sea. Among the road trips and cruises, they enjoyed Israel, Germany, Spain, France, Alaska, Florida, and the Caribbean. He also loved to garden, fish, puzzles with his sister, word games with his brothers, card games, and Fantasy Football. Don supported the local high school and college football teams. He loved life and always had smile on his face. He was kind, generous, and hard working.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore W. and Barbara (Heasley) Kuhns of Las Animas, CO and father-in law Richard Burnett of La Junta, CO. He is survived by siblings: Dr. Pamela Kuhns (Nathaniel) Valdez, Las Animas, CO, David W. (Carol) Kuhns of Billings, MT, and Dr. Douglas W. (Dr. Elin Ora ) Kuhns of Lamar, CO. Sister in law, Kimberly Burnett of Pueblo West, CO, Mothers in law Judy (Lanny) Bemis and Dottie Burnett, both of La Junta, CO. He had three nieces: Breanne O’Hara, Anna Kuhns and Amy (Chris) Bakolas. Three nephews: Nathaniel Valdez, William Valdez, and Nick Kuhns.
His celebration of life will be held on Aug 25, 2018, at the Amazing Grace Fellowship in Pueblo West at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Amazing Grace Fellowship Worship Team.
