Dennis Joseph Vidmar

Dr. Dennis Joseph Vidmar, DDS, 74, passed away peacefully at the family home on Monday, June 12, 2017. He was born in Pueblo, CO on August 2, 1942. He graduated from Pueblo Catholic High in 1960 and then received the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree May 30, 1966 from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska. Dennis was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Detachment at The Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland from 1966 to 1968. For 43 years, before his retirement in 2009, he maintained his private dental practice in Pueblo, serving many families including four generations in many cases. He loved his patients and cared for them with great dedication. He was a life member of the American Dental Association and the Colorado Dental Association. He also held many offices in the Southern Colorado Dental Association and the Southern Colorado Dental Study Club over the years. Denny had many interests which included family and friends. He loved fly fishing on the San Juan and Arkansas Rivers and trolling at Blue Mesa and Taylor Lake with the kids, grandkids and many doggies. His breakfasts, prepared on the boat, were legendary. Camping and hiking with the family were favorite activities as well as playing cards and board games. Dennis enjoyed all kinds of travel, especially cruises to the Baltic and Alaska and visiting foreign countries, with many highlights remembered by all. One of his main interests was music. He could often be found sitting in the living room, listening to the stereo with “Chaac”, his most beloved dog by his side. The Thursday Lunch Bunch were paramount in gifting their time and respect with him. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Joan and five children. Father of Kristina M. Hosman (Stan), Dennis M. Vidmar (Jeanette), Alan R. Vidmar (Larisa), Brian J. Vidmar (Shanda), and Stacey M. Matson (Sebastein). Grandfather of Alexandra, Cassie, Trevor, Paige, Christopher, Nicholas, Jackson, Lauren, Tyler, Andrew and Elijah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Joseph and Catherine Mildred Vidmar, and his brother, Dr. Gordon C. Vidmar. A special thanks to Dr. Thomas Gaide and Rachael, and the Frontier Hospice. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor James King at 10 AM Tuesday, June 20, at Our Lady of the Meadows Church. Interment at Imperial Cemetery, Veterans Court of Honor, immediately following the mass. A luncheon reception will then follow at the church for all. In lieu of food or flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PAWS For Life or the Boy Scouts of America through the funeral home.
