Curtis Baynes, 53. Family and friends deeply mourn the recent loss of Curtis D. Baynes. Curtis died on September 2, 2010, in Monrovia, California, where he lived. He cared deeply about his family and friends and will be missed dearly. Curtis was an engineer with the Metropolitan Water District, Southern California, for 25+ years in Los Angeles, CA. He had a variety of interests, playing football, basketball and baseball while in school and studying jazz and classical music, focusing on clarinet, tenor and bass saxophone. In recent years, he performed with various jazz bands in the Los Angeles area. He worked as a forestry engineer in Washington and Oregon during summers while studying at Oregon State University and was also a volunteer forestry firefighter during that period. Curtis graduated from Columbia River High School, Vancouver, WA and later from Oregon State University, Forestry Engineering and Resources with a BA of Science, 1986. He was listed in “Who’s Who Among High School Students.” He furthered his education with Biola University, earning an Organizational Leadership Graduate Certificate, 2001 and with Citrus College, Studies in Water Treatment, Distribution and Conservation, 2009. Curtis was born December 27, 1956, in Pueblo, CO. Curtis is survived by his mother, Alma Baynes, father, Harvey Baynes, and sister, Tracy Baynes. Graveside services will be held at Imperial Memorial Gardens, Pueblo, CO on Monday, October 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Curtis D. Baynes Memorial at Bessemer Academy, Pueblo, CO through the funeral home office.
