On Wednesday, June 26, Charles Elbert Norton, known to everyone as Chuck, passed away. A beloved husband, brother, father, and “Grandad,” he passed away at age eighty-eight. Born to George and Harriet BonDurant Norton, Chuck was a proud graduate of Pueblo County High School. He married the love of his life, Darlene, and went to serve 2 years in the Army where he was named “Soldier of the Month” at Fort Huachuca.
Darlene and Chuck enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. Chuck especially enjoyed his time with his sons, Chuck Jr. and John, and all of his beloved grandchildren. Chuck farmed in Vineland and was a member of Vineland Methodist Church. He worked for BMC and the Suburban Land Company and served many years and retired from his last position as Director of Maintenance, Service and Supply for Pueblo School District #70.
Chuck was a member of the Eagles, and a 52-year member of the Elks. He received special recognition from the St. Charles Mesa Water District for his 33 years as a member of their Board of Directors: 8 years as President, 17 years as Vice-president, and 8 years as Director from 1975-2008.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Darlene Norton; his brother George (Carol) Norton; his sons Charles E. (Bonnie) Norton Jr. and John (Sherry) Norton; and grandchildren Taylor (AJ Ruble) Norton, Charles E. Norton III (Columbia, MO), Sabrina (Thomas) O’Brien (Aurora, CO), Caitlin Norton, Erica Norton, Jolene Norton (Hickory Creek, TX), and Gunnar Norton.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 9am with Funeral to follow at 10am at TG McCarthy Funeral Home Chapel. Chuck will be laid to rest at Imperial Memorial Gardens, at the Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum.
