Betty Mae Trujillo passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born in Pueblo, CO on June 16, 1928 to John Medill and Edna Wallace. She is predeceased by her parents; brother, Jack Medill; sister-in-law, Helen Medill; and stepson, Michael Trujillo.
Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Joe Trujillo; daughters, Penne Wilson and Rhenda Branson; stepdaughters, Cathy (Mark) Frankmore, Sharon Piserchio, Gina (Bill) Selvage, and Donna Gutierrez; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; Sister-in-laws, Joann Musso and Diane Aragon; brother-in-laws, Gary Trujillo and Larry Trujillo. She is also survived by special niece, Patty (Paul) Cuff; and special friends, Olaya Sanchez and Shirley Robinson.
Betty was a successful and well-respected English teacher of over 44 years in both Pueblo and Albuquerque. She taught at Pueblo Central Grade School, South High School, and Centennial High School. In Albuquerque, she taught at Manzano and Sandia High Schools. She served as pep-club sponsor and academic decathlon coach. Her pursuits included traveling, golf, writing, and following New Mexico Lobo basketball. Betty's accomplishments included being crowned Miss Pueblo and runner-up Miss Colorado in 1946 and making the first hole-in-one at Elmwood Golf course short-nine.
Per Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 17, 2023, 4:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University. A second Memorial Service and interment will be held Friday, March 24, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo, CO.
