Angelo ‘Ange’ Joseph Rotondo passed away in the early hours of January 5, 2021. Preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Maggie), his parents Joseph and Teresa, sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Sam Vaccaro, brother-in-law Donald Whitmore, he is survived by his sister Nancy Whittemore, daughter Kelly Meyers (Vic), 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Jack and Patty Blanc (nephew and niece) for helping Ange over the years.
Ange will be remembered for his love of family and his creativity.
As a teen in the 1960s Ange was quite the local celebrity as the drummer for “Patti Jo and the Teardrops” and “Guys and Doll”. In the 1980s he could often be found on the stage of Mrs. G’s Silver Saddle. “Patti Jo and the Teardrops” cut a few records that may not have made it to Gold but are certainly worth gold to those who were young back then.
Ange retired from CF&I Steel Mill as a Master Carpenter. He loved working with wood and when he wasn’t at work he was busy in his shop being creative. He was well known around Pueblo for his Christmas decorations which were mostly hand-made. Cars would line up for blocks to drive by and see his decorations. On most nights they would also find Ange dressed as Santa. Santa and his helper elves would be there to say hi and give candy canes to the kids. Anybody who came to his home could see the evidence of his skill and creativity in various pieces throughout the house.
Ange will be missed by all who knew him but he will especially be missed by his grandchildren. They knew him as Papa. When they were little they all sat on the bench he made and they all took turns playing Santa’s helper. They loved him and they knew he loved them.
Whether you knew him as Angelo, Ange, or Papa now is the time to remember the many ways he brought a smile to your face. Now is the time to be happy for him as he has left us but he is joined again with Maggie, who he has missed dearly since she left us.
