It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zabel Meklian, a devoted member of the Armenian community and a longtime resident of Providence, Rhode Island. She departed this life on December 24, 2024, at the remarkable age of 94.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Zabel was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anoush (Giragosian) Meklian. She spent over 40 years working as a dedicated secretary for the Providence Gas Company.
Zabel’s deep commitment to her faith was evident in her active membership at Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, where she was a cherished member of the choir. Her love for music and community was a hallmark of her spiritual life.
Zabel is survived by her loving sister, Mary Meklian, and a large, close-knit family, including her nieces and nephews, Karen, John, and Michelle Curran, who was married to the late Glen. She is also survived by her great-nieces and great-nephews, Marissa McNally and her husband Alex, Trinity, Gabriel, and Lucius Curran. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Anoush Meklian, and her younger sister, Elizabeth.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence.
The funeral services for Zabel Meklian will be held on Monday, December 30th, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, 70 Jefferson Street, Providence. Interment will take place at North Burial Ground, Providence.
