WarwickWillian J. Hames, 79, passed away Thursday at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Gwendolyn M. (Martin) Hames. Born in Providence, a son of the late Martin J. and Florence (Mulvey) Hames, he lived in Warwick for the past twenty-eight years. Bill was a Sergeant for the Providence Police Department for 23 years retiring in 1959. He was a member of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 3. He was the secretary for the Providence Police Association for the last twenty-five years, and a member of the Retired Providence Police & Firefighters Association. He was a Worrld War II Navy Veteran. He is survived by his son, Martin F. Hames ( Ret. Major P.P.D.) of Cranston, three sisters, Catherine M. McWeeney of Warwick, Marie L. Lavoie of South Kingstown, Rita L. Petrarca of Cranston, his former daughter-in-law, Karen P. Hames of Cranston, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was the father of the late William J.Hames, II and Thomas L. Hames, brother of the late Francis M. Hames, and grandfather of the late William J. Hames, III. The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Monday, 4 - 8 pm.
