William H. Brophy “Bill” 85, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry L. and Mary A. (Crowley) Brophy. He served his country proudly with the United States Marines during the Korean War. Bill worked as a Sheriff for the State of Rhode Island for 21 years before retiring. He was a member of the Ireland 32 Society, the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, and the Knights of Columbus. An avid coin collector, Bill also loved to draw. Bill is survived by his brother, Leo F. Brophy, of Cranston and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Vincent L. Brophy, James D. Brophy, and Robert R. Brophy. His funeral will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, in Holy Cross Church, Hartford Ave., Providence. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 4-7 pm.
